“He was such a good student.”
Never mind the rips in his shirt or the holes at the bottom of his shoes.
“He studied hard every night.”
If he sat close to the wall underneath the small window that had been painted shut, he could position the book just enough for the moon’s light to shine in between the bars.
“He always got his homework done.”
The way he multitasked should have earned him extra credit. When he was lucky enough, he never once burned his food.
“He passed every test.”
His memory has never once failed him. When he was six his dad taught him the concept of prison, he never forgot.
“He’s always on time.”
“There’s no way to be late if you leave at four to be there by eight.” His sense of humor was always on point.
“He was such a good boy.”
It’s amazing to see a thirteen-year-old who can think for himself. It’s like he’s been doing it for all of his life.
“I don’t know where it all went wrong.”
He doesn’t either. 😔
