You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?
This is gonna be fun! For my perfect reading/writing space let me take you on a journey.
Imagine yourself in your dream house, the walls are lined with whatever material that gets you excited and the kitchen has as many ovens as you’d like. You’re calm and relaxed in this house and when it’s time to host, people can’t wait for the experience. This dream house has it all and you’re fine to let everyone enjoy every bit of it—except one secret room that stands to hold all the real excitement.
You’ve just finished hosting the family’s annual Christmas party and the guests raved over the event. You’re exhausted because it was really a huge deal (it always is to host your whole family) and you lost count of the number of times you’ve had to stop your aunt from throwing all of your nice silverware into her big leather purse 🤭.
Everyone has gone home, the house is finally cleaned, and your children are finally asleep for the night. It’s quiet, your favorite sound in the world. You’ve taken the best shower of your life and enjoyed scrubbing off the day with your favorite loofah. It’s been a great day, but tonight—tonight is the night to focus on you 😌.
After leaving the master bathroom that is nicely nestled inside this large and beautiful master bedroom you go to the hallway. There is a key you must retrieve. This key isn’t like the other keys that jangle from your keychain, no—this key is special and it’s kept in a safe place, always (and it’s a secret only you know 🤫).
In the hallway you slowly move your fingers along the smooth wall enjoying the soft tickles that is shooting through your fingertips as you happily walk past. At the end of the hallway there’s a door. The door is rounded at the top and looks a little like it leads to medieval times. It’s thick and would be too heavy for any one person to ever lift.
You take out your special key and stick it in the lock that leads to your greatest kept secret. The lock turns and the satisfaction you get from hearing the “CLUNK” never gets old. You grab the cold metal handle of the door and give it your famous and familiar push. Closing your eyes and taking a deep breath—you step into the room.
It’s been a while since you’ve felt this good and you can’t remember the last time you had a chance to visit. After taking your breath, you’re ready to read, you are inspired and ready to write. You open your eyes and you see…well, I don’t know what you see, you’re the one in the room!
I hope you enjoyed that fun little writing exercise as much as I did! If you find yourself excited by my style of writing consider subscribe to my blog to keep up with my upcoming release dates works Dear Chicago: A Note From Charity and my new fantasy Trilogy A Wolf’s Nature.
